The Cornell campus VPN gives you access to campus-wide networks and services. However, some departments use a departmental VPN to provide added security for particular departmental resources.
To use VPN with campus or department networks and services, you must use Cisco VPN software with an additional PCF file installed.
If you have not already, follow these steps:
NOTE: Cisco offers only a 32-bit VPN client. CIT is exploring secure remote access alternatives for users of Windows 64-bit edition operating systems. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Connect to a Departmental VPN
- Click Start, then click All Programs, select Cisco Systems VPN Client and then VPN Client.
- Select the departmental VPN you're trying to connect to (names will vary), and then click Connect.

- In the Username box, enter your NetID followed by the permit name provided to you by your technical support provider, for example, ewe2@permit.name. In the Password box, enter your NetID password.

- The Cisco VPN window closes. The locked padlock in the Taskbar indicates that you are connected.

- To disconnect from the VPN, right-click the padlock and click Disconnect.
