Changing Your Windows Domain Password

Follow these instructions to change your password for the CITWIN (or other active directory) domain.

Change Password

  1. On a Windows XP or 2000 Pro desktop, press Ctrl+Alt+Del.
    If you are logged in to a server remotely via Remote Desktop, press Ctrl+Alt+End.
  2. In the Windows Security screen, click Change Password.
  3. Click Change Password.

  4. In the User name box, enter your NetID.
  5. In the Log on to box, enter citwin.cornell.edu. (To log on to a different Active Directory domain, enter the domain name, for example, cornell.edu or dept.cornell.edu.)
  6. In the Old Password box, enter your old password.
  7. Change Password box.

  8. In the New Password box, enter your new password. Use the following criteria to create a secure password:
    • Passwords should not contain your name or NetID.
    • Passwords must include 3 of the following: uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, special characters (!, @, #, $, etc.).

  9. In the Confirm Password box, enter your new password again, and then click OK.
