IBM/Tivoli has certified version 6.1.0.1 of the TSM client for Macintosh for use with Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard).
There is one caveat which does NOT affect backup completeness or integrity, but does have disk space implications. This version does not fully support the new file compression scheme introduced in this version of Mac OS X. TSM successfully backs up compressed files, but when TSM restores them, they are not re-compressed, which means that they will occupy more disk space. There is no loss of functionality, just disk space.
Apple only compresses operating system and application files distributed with Snow Leopard and does NOT use file compression for user files. If you are using TSM primarily to protect user files, we expect that you will not experience the "restored file is larger" scenario.
TSM v6.1.0.1 is the new version that we just announced on September 30th. You can find installation and upgrade instructions here.
IBM/Tivoli plans to fully support the Apple compression scheme with the version 6.1.2.0 client, expected at the end of the year.
