Computing at Cornell Telephones

ResPhone is the Cornell University telephone service offered by Cornell Information Technologies (CIT) for students living in residence halls. Each residence hall room has a direct phone line and one telephone set.

Special Note for residents of Schuyler House, Phi Beta Pi Sorority, Thurston Court, and Maplewood Apartments: You don't have phone service unless you activate it by calling Network and Communication Services (NCS) at 4-6271. Phone service in these residences is $21.50 per month.

ResPhone offers campus, local, long distance, and international calling services, plus Call Waiting. Voice Mail, 900 service, and Data Protection are available for additonal fees.

Starting in early May 2007, you will be able to view your CIT phone and network statement on the web. You will receive a monthly e-mail telling you when your bill is ready.

Use of all campus telephone resources is governed by university policies and codes as well as applicable federal, state, and local laws. All users of university resources are expected to be familiar with and to abide by these regulations. (Click here to find out more about these policies.)

HARASSMENT AND ABUSE
People using campus telephones for fraudulent or harassing purposes are subject to prosecution under local, state, and federal law.

PERSONAL IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (PIN)
Your Personal Identification Number (PIN) is for your use only and you will be responsible for all calls placed with this number. Sharing of your PIN is prohibited. If you do share your number, you will be responsible for all charges incurred. Use of a PIN other than your own will constitute abuse and you will be responsible for any fees associated with the investigation and will be liable for payment of any calls.

Your PIN should be considered extremely confidential and should be memorized. DO NOT share your PIN with anyone! If someone gets access to it they can make phone calls and bill them to your bursar bill. In the event you lose your PIN or have reason to believe someone is using your number, please contact ResPhone immediately!

If you lived in a residence hall last year, your PIN has not changed.

If this is your first year in a residence hall and you want a PIN, please fill out the online Student ResPhone PIN Request Form.
