Making Calls

Follow these instructions to make calls from your residence hall phone. See ResPhone Billing and Rates for rate information.

Type of Call

What you Dial

Campus calls

No charge from any residence hall phone

Five-digit number starting with 3, 4, or 5

Campus exchanges are 253, 254, and 255. When you are off campus, you must dial the full seven digits to reach a campus phone.

Local

Local calls are not billed, but covered by a flat rate charge per semester. See Billing and Rates for more information.

 

9 + seven-digit number

When making local calls, you may find your call rejected (if the extension you are calling is blocking anonymous incoming calls). To turn on your outgoing Caller ID for a single call, dial 118 + 9 + seven-digit local number.

Long distance & International Domestic long distance
9 + 1 + area code + phone number + PIN

International
9 + 011 + country code + city code + number + PIN

AT&T calling cards

AT&T is Cornell's long-distance carrier.

9 + 0 + area code + number
Wait for tone
Enter calling card number
Cards from other carriers

You cannot subscribe to any other carrier's special rate offering (including AT&T) unless access is through a calling card or carrier PIN.

9 + carrier's five-digit access code (or 800 or 950 access number) + area code + number

Pre-paid calling cards

9 + 1 + vendor's 800 access number

Collect and third-number billed

Note: you cannot receive collect calls on your residence hall phone.
