In order to meet the needs of members of the Cornell community who travel from the Ithaca Cornell Campus to Cornell Weill Medical College or vice versa, the secure Wi-Fi Networks of each are available at the other. People traveling from Ithaca to Weill can access RedRover-Secure while at Weill, and those visiting the Ithaca campus from Weill can access WMC Secure.
Members of the Cornell Ithaca community visiting Weill Medical College can connect to the Weill wireless network using their existing RedRover-Secure settings. Although you use your RedRover-Secure connection, you're actually connecting to the Weill Medical College wireless network. This means that for some Ithaca campus resources, you'll need to use the virtual private network (CU-VPN).
To access the RedRover-Secure wireless network at Weill Medical College, you'll need:
Configure your computing device to prefer the wireless network named RedRover-Secure. See the How-To guide for step-by-step instructions. When you travel to the Weill Medical campus, connect to the RedRover-Secure wireless network.
Just as when you use RedRover-Secure on the Cornell Ithaca campus, information you send over the wireless network is secure from nearby wireless users. When your data leaves the wireless portion of the network and enters the wired portion, the data is as secure as the service you're using on the wired network. In other words, the security provided by RedRover-Secure provides protection only while your data remains on the wireless network.
Many network services authorize access using your IP address. When you use the RedRover-Secure network in Ithaca, you are given an IP address on the Cornell Ithaca campus. You can access services that are restricted to Ithaca Cornell campus IP addresses.
When you use RedRover-Secure from the Weill Medical College campus, you are given an IP address on the Weill campus network. Ithaca campus services that are restricted to Ithaca campus IP addresses won't allow you access with a Weill campus IP address.
To access Ithaca campus services, you may need to use the CU-VPN. See the VPN site for step-by-step instructions.
WMC Secure permits faculty, staff and students of Weill Medical Center who are visiting the Cornell Ithaca campus to connect by Wi-Fi using authorization credentials provided to members of the Weill community. The network operates generally as it does in New York City, and user support is provided by the support staff at Weill.
