RedRover Installation Information for Departments and Colleges

Network & Communication Services (a division of CIT) installs, operates, and maintains the RedRover Wi-Fi service using the Aruba Networks 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi platform. This page provides general information for any Cornell-affiliated department or college interested in establishing RedRover Wi-Fi for its location.

Generally, Wi-Fi coverage is desired in areas where users tend to assemble, be mobile, and use laptops or other handheld networked devices—areas such as conference rooms, classrooms, and public study areas.

Getting RedRover established at your location involves several steps.   First, upon customer request, a wireless site survey is performed.  The result of the site survey determines installation costs and allows for a detailed estimate of those costs to be provided to the customer.  Upon customer approval of the estimate, NCS proceeds with an infrastructure design, build, and RedRover installation.

RedRover installations typically require construction of conduit and placement of cable and new outlets. Costs may vary by building/location.

Telecommunication coordinators, building coordinators, and/or network administrators may request a RedRover estimate by submitting an NCS Request For Service at www.cit.cornell.edu/ncs/rfs/ or by e-mailing NCS Operations Support at ncs-os@cornell.edu.
