MAC address computer's unique hardware number, used to identify the computer on networks (technically, it's the node address, which can be anything connected to a network, not just a computer). It is unrelated to the Macintosh platform.
"MAC" stands for "media access control." ResNet uses DHCP to assign IP addresses; the DHCP server uses the MAC address to do this.

Macintosh Avoid "Mac" except with OS or when there are severe space constraints.

Mac OS ___ But "System ___" for 7.5.5 and earlier.
"Mac OS X v10.4" is the full designation of the various flavors of OS X

net nickname for Internet; lowercase chosen to avoid confusion with "Net ID"

NetID, NetIDs abbreviation of Network ID. NetID is used much more commonly than Network ID. NetID always has three capital letters and no spaces.
