Getting Started – How to request NetIDs

  • Staff and faculty: The college or unit human resource (HR) representative or the unit supervisor must request a NetID from HR Records.
  • Students: Once the University Registrar confirms that the student has accepted admission CIT creates the NetID. The NetID and activation code is either conveyed via postal service or directly to the student upon arrival on campus. The student may also visit the Contact Center to obtain the NetID and activation code after producing photo ID.
  • Affiliates: Affiliate business offices must request a NetID from the CIT contact center for new affiliate staff.
  • Alumni: Alumni can go to the Alumni Affairs web site and complete the form.
  • Sponsored NetIDs: Units that wish to sponsor an individual to obtain a Sponsored NetID must request the ID from the unit’s security liaison. Details on the information to be included in the request are available at: http://www.cit.cornell.edu/services/identity/netid.html#eligible
  • Weill and Qatar personnel: A NetID may be requested by sending the completed Application for a Network Identity, along with a photocopy of the requester's Cornell ID card or valid government-issued photo ID card (such as a driver's license or passport), to the CIT Contact Center.
