Using EZ-Print on Other Systems

If you have a Unix workstation or other type of computer and wish to use EZ-Print, follow the instructions presented below.

Using the LPR Command

The LPR command may be used to print PostScript files from hosts other than CornellC. To use it, you need to employ the syntax appropriate for your host system. You also need to know what LPR options those hosts support. To find out, look at the LPR documentation (man pages or help screen) for your system.

For example, the command may resemble the following (where the printer's name is abcdef):

lpr -Pboss -C"PRT=abcdef" filename.ps

The following LPR command options, whether or not they are available on your host, do not work with the CIT Print Server, boss3.cit.cornell.edu:

  • -m (sends mail notification when printing is finished)
  • -numfont (mounts font at position num, where num is 1, 2, 3, or 4)
