CUTVUsing CUTV with Your Computer |
Although there are different steps for installing CUTV with Windows XP and Windows Vista, using the CUTV player is the same on both.
To watch CUTV:
- Make sure your computer is connected to the correct wall jack.
- Make sure your USB security device is connected.
- Start the SmartVision Player, either by:
- double-clicking the SmvPlayer shortcut on your desktop,
or

The first time you use the SmartVision Player, you will be asked for your Login (which is your NetID) and your Password (which you chose as part of subscribing to CUTV). Please note: not your NetID password.
After a few seconds, the CUTV SmartVision Player window will open in TV mode (see the section below for more on modes).

CUTV Viewing Modes
You can view CUTV in four different modes, but before we talk about them, here's one important reminder: pressing the Esc key or the F6 key on your computer keyboard will return you to TV mode. We tell you this now, because in some modes you won't see any controls on your computer screen.
The four CUTV viewing modes are:
Each mode has a keyboard shortcut, along with an icon in TV mode and EPG mode.
Small window mode (press the F5 key on your keyboard)
![]()
Small window mode shows you the selected channel in a window with no controls or menus onscreen. The picture window will stay on top of all other windows, even when you are working in another window. The picture can be resized by clicking and dragging any border of the window. You can move the picture to any location on your desktop by clicking (anywhere on the picture) and dragging the window.
When you switch to small window mode, and when you change channels, the upper left corner of the window will briefly display information about the channel being displayed.
To return to TV mode, click once anywhere on the CUTV window, then press the Esc or F6 key on your keyboard.
TV mode (press the F6 key on your keyboard)

TV mode is what you'll see each time you start CUTV. The channel lineup appears in the box on the left side of the screen. You can scroll up and down to see the full list of channels. Select a channel by clicking on it. The channel will appear in the main portion of the window with a description of the current program directly underneath the picture. This window is not resizable.
At the bottom of the window are the eight icons shown in the table above.
EPG (programming guide) mode (press the F7 key on your keyboard)

Electronic Programming Guide mode lets you look through the programming schedules for the upcoming week for any channel. Select the channel on the left, click on a day of the week in the middle, then scroll the program listing on the right.
A tiny video window shows you the current programming on the channel you've selected.
At the bottom of the window are the eight icons shown in the table above.
Full screen mode (press the F8 key on your keyboard)
(We'd show you a picture, but it seems pointless...)
Full screen mode uses your entire monitor to display the picture. There are no controls or menus onscreen
To return to TV mode, click once anywhere on the CUTV window, then press the Esc or F6 key on your keyboard.
