How to Get Started

Check with your local technical support provider to find out whether your department or unit has signed up for the Oracle Calendar service. Before you can start using Oracle Calendar, an account must be created for you on the Oracle Calendar server. Your department's Oracle Calendar administrator will set up your account and give you your password.
You will need the following information from your technical support provider:
- the password that has been assigned to you.
You can download the Oracle Calendar client software from the links below or through Runway (Bear Access)'s Admin Services package. You must have SideCar running on your computer to be recognized as a Cornell faculty or staff member licensed to download this software. Download time may be significant if you are using a modem.

- For Windows (18 MB)
- For Mac OS X (20.3 MB)
- For Mac OS 9 (13 MB)
- Locate
- For Windows: cal_win_90421.zip and double-click it.
- For OS X: cal_mac_OSX_90421.hqx and double-click it.
- For OS 9: cal_mac_OS9_90421.hqx and double-click it.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install the software.
When your account has been set up on the Oracle Calendar server and you have your password, you can sign in and start using Oracle Calendar
- Open Oracle Calendar
- A Sign-In window will open.
- Click Other...
- In the next window, click New.
- In the Connection Editor window (see illustration below)
- Enter calendar in the Connection Name box.
- In the Server box
- If you are Cornell Theory Center faculty or staff, contact your technical support provider for the appropriate server name.
- Everyone else should enter calendar.cornell.edu.
- Click Lookup.
- Select Configure at login from user name (this should be the default) and click Configure.

- Authentication, Compression and Encryption values will automatically be filled in.
- Click OK, and click OK again to return to the Sign-in window.

- In the Sign-In window, under People, click the magnifying glass icon
to search for yourself in the directory.
- Enter your last name and your first name in the appropriate boxes.
- Click Search.
- Select your name from the list that appears in the lower half of the window, and click OK. Your name as it appears here is your Oracle Calendar user name.

- In the Sign-In window, type your Oracle Calendar password in the Password box. You should change your password after you’ve signed in.
- Click Sign-in.

- Oracle Calendar will automatically open two windows; the first is your In-tray. Close or minimize the In-tray to see your agenda. Proceed to the next section, below.
If you were assigned a password, you should change it; if you were not assigned a password, you should create one to protect your calendar.
- From the Tools menu, select Change Password....
- If you were assigned a password, type it into the Old password box. If you have not yet set a password, leave this box blank.
- Type the new password you have chosen in the New password box.
Note: You should not use the same password you use with your NetID.- Click OK..
- You will be asked you verify your password. Type your new password again and click OK .
- If you have ever worked offline in Oracle Calendar, you'll see the message: Your off-line Agenda has a different password. Do you want to synchronize your passwords? Click OK to complete your password change.
When you sign in to Oracle Calendar, two windows will open. Oracle Calendar will automatically open two windows; the first is your In-tray. Close or minimize the In-tray to see your agenda. The In-Tray lists invitations to events that you've received or sent. If you reduce the size of this window, or choose the entry with your name in it from the Window menu, you'll be able to see the Agenda window, which is underneath.
