Antivirus: Windows: Update Antivirus Defintions and Software

AntiVirus software scans for viruses using files called "virus definitions." Each virus definition enables the antivirus software to recognize and act against a particular virus.

To protect your computer against new viruses as they appear, keep your virus definitions and antiVirus applications current.

LiveUpdate is software included with Symantec Endpoint Protection. It checks the web for updates to the virus definition files and other Symantec Endpoint Protection components.

Run LiveUpdate

1. Double-click the shield icon in the system tray to open Symantec Endpoint Protection.
2. In the left pane, click LiveUpdate.
3. LiveUpdate opens a progress window, connects to Symantec's LiveUpdate server, checks for updates, and installs them.
4. LiveUpdate will then list what components it installed or a message stating that an update was not necessary. If necessary, click Close.
5. Close the Symantec Endpoint Protection window.
