Symantec Client Security Updates:
Symantec Client Security combines Symantec AntiVirus and Symantec Client Firewall into a single installation. Before starting this installation, please check:
- Do you have anti-virus software already installed?
- You must un-install your old anti-virus software before starting to install the new software
- ...unless your old anti-virus software came with a previous release of Bear Access.
- Do you have firewall software already installed?
- Firewall software other than the Corporate Edition of Symantec Client Security: You will need to uninstall it before starting the installation process for Symantec Client Security.
- Previous version of Symantec Client Security: See the note below about rule sets before running the SCS installer distributed by Bear Access.
To make sure your computer is fully protected,
- Go to Bear Access, click Symantec Client Security Windows XP or Symantec AntiVirus V10.2 Windows Vista, and follow the installation steps, including restarting your computer.
Symantec Client Security includes both the Firewall and the AntiVirus components for Windows XP. Symantec has not released a Firewall product for Windows Vista. Use the Windows Firewall that is part of Vista instead.
AntiVirus Component of Symantec Client Security:
When you install a new version of Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition, the installer software supplied by Symantec will remove previous versions delivered by Bear Access (Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 9.x or 8.x, or Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition Version 7.6x). If you have any other version of AntiVirus software, you will need to manually remove it prior to installing Version 10. Multiple versions of AntiVirus software are not designed to coexist on a system. To check installed packages or to un-install a package, from the Start menu choose Settings then Control Panel and double-click on the Add or Remove Programs icon.
If you are running a managed version of Symantec AntiVirus software, you should contact your network administrator before installing any new version.Firewall Component of Symantec Client Security:
- Symantec Client Security automatically turns off the Windows XP SP2 firewall.
- When you install the Firewall component the AntiVirus component is also installed.
- If you have a previous consumer version (not supplied by Bear Access) of Symantec Client Security, AntiVirus or Personal Firewall installed, you will need to uninstall it before installing the Corporate Edition of Symantec Client Security.
- Uninstall any other third-party firewall product before installing Symantec Client Security.
- The installer distributed by Bear Access includes a customized rule set that will replace any existing rules. Therefore, if you are currently running a copy of Symantec Client Security, any existing rules will not be migrated to this new version. If you wish to migrate them, you will need to do it manually by exporting and re-importing your existing settings.
