Antivirus: Macintosh: Perform a Manual Scan
In addition to running scheduled scans, it may be necessary for you to run a manual scan of your computer or certain files or folders. You can run a manual scan at any time.
During a scan your antivirus software searches for files infected with viruses or other malicious software. It will try to repair damaged files by removing the infection. Files that can't be repaired can be placed in quarantine to keep the infection from spreading. After the scan is finished, you'll see a list of problems found and actions taken.
