LSPFix Winsock Repair Tool
There are two different tools that can be helpful in correcting network connectivity problems. WinsockXPFix requires less working knowledge of Windows networking, but it sets your networking to a state similar to what it was when Windows was first installed. On the other hand, the LSPFix tools attempts to repair the Layered Service Provider section by allowing you to selectively remove item(s) from the list.

Warning: Removing spyware, like any change to the operating system software, may cause your computer to malfunction, and you might need to reinstall Windows. To be on the safe side, you should have a current backup of all critical files. |
Repairing a Damaged Windows XP/2000 Winsock2 Stack using LSPFix:
- Back up the Windows registry: [optional since WinsockXPFix could be used if this technique fails]
- Download and run the erunt-setup.exe from:
http://home.t-online.de/home/lars.hederer/erunt/erunt-setup.exe
You should be able to accept the defaults. When prompted if you wish to place a shortcut in your Start-Up Group indicate No. - On the Welcome screen click OK.
- On the Backup to: screen click OK.
- On the Question Folder does not exist screen click Yes.
- You will see a status screen as your registry is being backed up.
- On the Registry backup
is complete! screen click OK.
- Repair the Winsock Stack
- Download the LSPFix utility from http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
- Launch the LSPFix.exe
- On the Winsock 2 Repair
Utility screen
- Place a check mark next to I know what I'm doing
- Click on the entry you wish to mark for removal.
This is the step that requires some working knowledge of Windows networking since you need to select one or more entries to remove from the Winsock stack. In our case, the newdotnet6_38.dll was the entry that was unexpected so we marked it for removal. - Click the >> button to move the item(s) to the Remove window.
- Click Finish to remove the entry from the Winsock stack.
- On the Repair summary screen click OK.
- Restart your system.
- You should have connectivity restored.
What to do if connectivity is not restored?
If you still can't connect, refer to the Winsock Repair documentation.
