How to Enhance Web Browser Security: Safari

You can enhance the security of your web browser by following the recommendations below:

Note: These procedures apply only to Safari. Please see the Internet Explorer or Firefox pages for more information about how to enhance the security of those browsers.

Turn on Automatic Updates

Safari can both be automatically updated using the Software Update feature for the Mac OS X operating system. For step-by-step information for Mac OS X, see the Turn on Automatic Updates page.

Disable Popups

It's a good idea to disable popups in your browser because many web sites use popup windows to run malicious software.

  1. From the Safari menu, choose Preferences.
  2. Click Security.
  3. In the Web Content section, check Block pop-up windows.
  4. Close the Preferences window.
