
CIT ResNet Database Administrator
General Description:
This position is responsible for maintaining, administering, and developing the ResNet Database. The ResNet Database manages the connection, subscription, and support information for Cornell's data service to the residence halls.
Requirements:
Familiarity with and/or a strong interest to learn the Unix/Linux environment.
HTML/web page development experience.
Programming experience and interest in PHP, Perl, C, or Java, including CGI or other server-side scripting experience.
Experience or familiarity with database administration and SQL.
Good communications skills (particularly written) are essential, including the ability to handle difficult situations diplomatically.
Candidates must be reliable and accessible as well as able to work under pressure.
Contact with the community must reflect a professional attitude.
Should have the ability to work with people with varying levels of computer knowledge.
Ability to work independently and with minimum supervision essential.
Familiarity with the Cornell network environment, particularly ResNet, is highly desirable.
Familiarity with network protocols (such as TCP/IP, DHCP), hardware, and infrastructure a plus.
Details:
The ResNet Database Administrators (DBAs) will be expected to maintain and administer the ResNet MySQL database with PHP front-end. This will include development of web and Unix-based tools in support of the ResNet database and assisting with ongoing support and maintenance. The position and responsibilities will include managing development of new tools and service features, delivering reports and metrics, being available for on-call issues, and working closely with other departments and divisions within CIT and Cornell on service integration projects.
We are looking for motivated, dedicated individuals who are willing to learn and develop new skills.
ResNet is looking to hire DBAs available to start this March, working with current staff for the balance of the Spring 2008 semester to learn and train with our systems and procedures, and subsequently continuing the position for the 2008-2009 academic year. Summer 2008 employment may also be available for applicants able to commit to the 2008 Fall semester.
The starting pay is $10.00/hr with opportunity for growth and challenges.
