RedRover is Cornell University's Wi-Fi network service. It is is available in selected areas on campus, including the libraries, many campus dining facilities, and student common areas. See the complete list of RedRover locations. Which RedRover is right for you?RedRover-Secure and RedRover can be used by anyone who has a valid Cornell NetID. Both provide access to Cornell's online services and to the Internet. The key difference is security. RedRover is not secure; if you use it, be aware that your data transmissions could be intercepted by others. To ensure your privacy, choose RedRover-Secure whenever possible; it encrypts the Wi-Fi portions of data transmission.
RedRover-Guest can be used by guests of the university who do not have a valid Cornell NetID. RedRover-Guest provides limited access to the Internet and specific services.
Caution: RedRover-Guest
is not secure. You should assume that all unencrypted data transmitted
can be viewed by others. Fees and Rates For students, beginning June 1, 2008, Internet usage to or from off-campus sites via RedRover is included in network usage-based billing (NUBB). NUBB already includes this type of usage on the wired networks. Use of Cornell's web sites and services is not counted, and will not be counted, as a result of this change. For information about additional NUBB billing changes for students, see What billing changes for students went into effect June 1, 2008. For faculty and staff, Internet usage via RedRover is not included in the network usage-based billing.
