Network Registry

Registration Requirements for Non-CIT Wireless Access Points

Cornell's Network Registry policy requires all devices, including wireless hubs and switches, connected to the network to be registered in a continuously updated central network registry maintained by CIT.

All 802.11 wireless devices that provide access to Cornell's data network, regardless of University office or funding source, must comply with this policy by being registered, broadcasting identifying SSID(S), and providing a security mechanism. For further details on these and additional requirements, see the 802.11 Wireless (WiFi) Data Network Operation Requirements page.

Network administrators should go to the DNS database to enter the required information for each device:

  1. Start at the Host List Maintenance page
  2. Select a subnet, and click "inspect/modify host list"
  3. Select a host, and click "inspect/modify host data"
  4. Scroll down to the Auxiliary Info heading
  5. Fill in these fields, required for wireless AP:
