Policy Statement
|
In appropriate circumstances, CIT will enable work from home outside of normal business hours by paying for and/or reimbursing for certain voice and data communications connection costs in an employee’s home. |
|
Procedure
|
As off-campus network capabilities become more robust, CIT employees are able to perform an increasing number of job responsibilities from off-campus locations. This is particularly exciting for employees who have substantial responsibilities outside of normal business hours. These employees may now be able to perform job responsibilities from home rather than returning to campus after hours. Recognizing its limited resources, CIT must make sound business decisions and apply these resources in an equitable manner in order to foster a positive work environment for all employees.
Employees should submit requests for direct payment or reimbursement of residential communications connections covered by this policy to their supervisor.
Types of services covered by this policy:
- EZ-Remote – CIT will pay for group EZ-Remote subscriptions for employees who need remote access to work. Employees may use this service to work from home and while traveling.
- ISP Connectivity (e.g., Time Warner Road Runner, Clarity Connect, Lightlink, etc.) – CIT will pay for home ISP (internet service provider) connectivity for employees only if:
- the cost of the ISP connectivity is less than the cost of a group EZ-Remote subscription plus the long-distance phone costs that employee would incur doing required work from home;
- the employee is charged with developing or supporting a critical system outside of normal business hours (or the employee is doing a significant amount of work at home in support of systems) and a 56k connection does not allow for such support; or
- the employee is charged with the responsibility, assigned by management, to understand a certain technology requiring such connectivity. Under this criterion, CIT will pay for the ISP connectivity, including installation and deactivations fees, for the duration of the assignment.
- Second Telephone Line – CIT will pay for a second telephone line for employees only if:
- the employee is charged with developing or supporting an application outside of normal business hours (or the employee is doing a significant amount of work at home in support of systems) that requires a modem connection; or
- the employee is charged with developing or supporting an application outside of normal business hours (or the employee is doing a significant amount of work at home in support of systems) and alternate ISP connectivity, such as Time Warner, is not available.
