Information Privacy & Security

Information security and privacy touches many issues in higher education and American society.  Certainly the need for expert privacy and security programs to protect institutional data has been a priority for colleges and universities given both the kinds and amount of sensitive information with which we operate administratively.  Information technologies have further contributed to public awareness of these issues as attention is drawn to the collection, retention, redistribution and repurposing of personally identifiable information.  Thus higher education is both in need of best practices in the areas of technical security and fair information practices as well as a clearing house for debate on law and policy needed to balance the free flow of information in a market economy with the individual privacy and protection of their identity, credit and reputation.

Below are links to policies, articles, or other documents that address the issue of electronic privacy on the Cornell campus. Also see the Social Networking page for more links related to online privacy.
