Network Operations Center (NOC) |
Cornell Information Technologies and the Cornell Theory Center shall provide a secure facility for the operation of its computer systems and network infrastructure, while providing an opportunity for appropriate viewing of this equipment.
Therefore,
1) Only people with a valid access card/key shall be allowed in the facility unescorted.
2) In order to protect our visitors and ensure the security and availability of our systems, tours of the following types can be accommodated only as described below.
- Scheduled Tours - eight or fewer people
- Tours with eight people or fewer may be arranged with special approval.
- A member of the CIT or Theory Center staff or other access cardholders shall escort all groups.
- CIT's Operations Center Manager or Operations shift Team Leader shall be contacted at least two days prior to the desired tour for approval.
- CIT's Operations Manager and Operations shift Team Leaders will notify each other when such tours have been scheduled.
- Tour leader must use the phone outside the machine room main entrance (double doors) to alert the operations staff of the start of the tour. This is essential to confirm that no hazardous conditions exist.
- Non-Scheduled Tours - four or fewer people
- Non-scheduled visitor tours are allowed only if escorted by an access card/key holder
- CIT's operations staff shall be notified prior to the tour. Such tours should consist of no more than four visitors. Generally, such tours must have a valid business purpose. The escort is responsible for ensuring the safety of the visitors and that equipment is not disturbed.
- Tour leader must use the phone outside the machine room main entrance (double doors) to alert the operations staff of the start of the tour. This is essential to confirm that no hazardous conditions exist.
- Outside Window Tour
- Walk-ins, large groups, and others may receive an outside window tour and view the Center at any time.
· Casual walk through - one or two people
- CIT or CTC staff who have access to the machine room may continue with casual walk-through tours of the computer room with vendor representatives or other visitors.
- The escort is responsible for ensuring the safety of the visitors and that equipment is not disturbed.Photograph or Videotape All requests to photograph or videotape within the Computer Room shall be made to the Assistant Director for CIT Systems & Operations Support, who will coordinate with the appropriate CIT staff.
Exceptions: Exceptions to the above must be approved in advance by the Assistant Director, CIT Systems and Operations
