Net-Print
Choosing a Printer

Which Net-Print printer should you use?
It's largely a matter of personal preference and convenience. Here
are some points to consider.
Location vs. Waiting Time
If it is important to print in the same lab where you are working,
select a printer in that lab. If not, or if there is a lengthy wait
for a printer where you are working, you might want to print your
file at another lab where the print
queue is shorter. See the CIT Computer Labs web page for lab hours,
locations, and equipment.
Black & White or Color
Most Net-Print printers do one-sided, black-and-white printing on
8 1/2 x 11 paper (also called "letter" size). More than
two dozen Net-Print printers can print two-sided as well. On all black-and-white
printers, color images or text will be printed in shades of gray.
Color laser printers are located in CIT labs in Upson B7, Uris Library
Tower Room, Stimson G25, Tjaden 221, Noyes 106, and RPCC 207, and
in more than twenty other locations.
For the most up-to-date information about printer features, see our
Printer
Feature Information page.
Resolution (DPI)
Resolution refers to the sharpness of printed text and images. It
is measured as dots per inch (DPI), which is the number of dots that
can be printed in one square inch. The higher the DPI, the sharper
your printouts will be. All Net-Print printers are 600 DPI.
Special Paper
To print résumés, transparencies, or other important
files on your own high-quality paper, select a special printer, usually listed
as a "Net-Print Résumé" printer. Any paper
or transparencies you supply must be laser-quality and 8 1/2 x 11.
Fees
The current charge is nine cents ($0.09) a page in CIT Computer
Labs for one-sided, black-and-white laser printing on 8 1/2 x 11 paper.
For two-sided printing (in CIT labs), the charge is nine cents per
side, so you won't save any money but you will save paper, which
we certainly want to encourage.
The charge for black-and-white printing in non-CIT labs is set by
that lab's administration, so prices vary, typically 3 to 10 cents
per page.
The fee for color printing is higher, typically 20 to 50 cents per
page.
For the most up-to-date pricing, see our Printer
Feature Information page. For more about the costs associated
with Net-Print, see the refund
policy.
