June 21, 5-8am, Campus telephone outage

Resetting features after the upgrade:

  • Send All Calls: All phones with the Send All Calls feature activated before the upgrade will be affected. The Send All Calls feature can be activated by using a "SAC" button or manually by dialing #2. The Send All Calls feature will need to be reinstated on the phone after the upgrade. The Send All Calls feature is normally used to forward the phone to another phone or to AUDIX. [Instructions for Analog Phones | Digital Phones]
  • Call Forward: Similarly, all phones utilizing the Call Forward feature of *2 will be affected. The Call Forward feature will need to be reinstated on the phone after the upgrade. [Instructions for Analog Phones | Digital Phones]
  • Speed Dial:
    • 8110 and 6221 speaker sets will lose their speed dial programming. You will need to reprogram the speed dials settings after the upgrade. [Instructions for Analog Phones]
    • Update June 23: 2410 and 2420 sets did not lose their internal "SpDial" programming and their button labeling as expected. They lost only their phone log history. You do not need to reprogram the "SpDial" and re-establish the button labeling. [Instructions for Digital Phones]
  • Speaker Light: The speaker light will be flashing on all 7400 series digital sets. To reset your speaker after the upgrade, press the *Select* or *Shift* button (depending on set type), then press the *Speaker* button.
  • Extension to Cellular: You will need to reactivate EC500 via your cell phone when the upgrade is complete. If you used a button on your desk phone set to activate, you will need to reactivate EC500 from your desk set after the upgrade. Update June 23: CIT has found that the security code for EC500 did not revert to the default security code as originally expected. Your EC500 security code post-upgrade is the same as it was before the upgrade. Full EC500 instructions
  • Call Management vector numbers have changed from 3 digits to 4 digits long.
If you login/logout manually you are now required to add a leading zero to your vector number.
If you use Autodials to login or logout you will not be affected as they have been automatically updated to account for this change; however, if you are logging in and logging out of Call Management manually using the 186 and 187 codes you will need to add an extra zero (0) in front of your vector number.
    • For example, if your vector number was 250, to login in the past you would dial 186250.
    • As of June 21 you will need to enter 1860250.
  • If you need assistance resetting features on your phone, please contact your Telecommunications Coordinator or NCS Operations Support at 4-6271 (4-NCS1).

Full text of announcement:

Extremely Important — This outage affects options for seeking help in the event of a problem or emergency at your facility. It is imperative that you notify anyone within your area who may be affected by the outage to ensure an appropriate emergency response.

On Saturday, June 21, from 5 to 8 a.m., the Cornell telephone system and AUDIX voice mail will be unavailable.

During this outage, every campus phone will be without a dial tone, including elevator, emergency, and Blue Light phones. AUDIX will also be unavailable.

The Cornell University Police will increase their patrols during the outage. In the event of an emergency, dial 911 from a cell phone or pull the closest building's fire alarm.

Campus emergency notification systems (PA, sirens, and text messaging) will remain operational during this outage, except for notification via campus telephones.

This outage is necessary so that Cornell Information Technologies can upgrade the campus phone switch to a new version of Avaya Communication Manager.

After the upgrade:

  • Phone features will work as they did before. Phone numbers and dialing procedures will remain the same. AUDIX messages received or saved prior to the outage will be retained.

  • On some digital (multi-line) phones, the Speaker button will be flashing after the upgrade is completed. Press the Shift/Select button and then the Speaker button to fix it.

  • If you use any of these phone features -- Send All Calls, Call Forwarding, Speed Dial, or EC500 (Extension to Cellular) -- your settings will be lost as a result of the upgrade. You can reset these features any time after 8 a.m. on June 21. See above for more information.

Questions or concerns before or after the outage may be directed to NCS Operations Support at ncs-os@cornell.edu or 254-NCS1.

Thank you for your understanding.
