Servers don't recognize that SideCar is running
Problem: When trying to access Web pages that require SideCar (Who I Am, the EZ-Remote Suscription page, Student Jobs and Internships, etc...), the server to which you are trying to connect behaves as though SideCar is not running, even though SideCar is running and works correctly. If the computer is behind a firewall with port 913 restricted, then the Web server will be unable to contact SideCar. A similar problem arises when the computer is connected to the Internet through a shared connection. So far this problem has only been reported on computers running a foreign-language version of Windows and/or foreign language translation software when the computer is not running behind a firewall or shared connection.
Update: Web pages should no longer require SideCar for access. Use CUWebLogin for access to pages that require a Cornell login.
Solution:
If your computer is running Windows XP, the Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) may be enabled and blocking ports 37 and 913. Click here for instructions on how to open these ports in the ICF.
If your computer is running on a firewalled network, contact your network administrator to have ports 37 and 913 opened to network traffic.
If your computer is on a network running through a shared connection (NAT) you will probably not be able to access SideCar restricted Web pages. The CIT HelpDesk cannot help you configure connection sharing software.
If your computer is running foreign-language translation software, please un-install the software if you wish to access SideCar-restricted Web pages.
If you are running a foreign language version of Windows, please ensure that you are running the latest version of Kerberos (included with the latest Bear Access release). This release contains support for foreign language operating systems.
If none of the previous situations apply to you, in some situations, reinstalling Kerberos and SideCar has helped. If this does not solve the problem, please contact the HelpDesk so we can track this problem and let you know if we find a solution. However, in the meantime you will have to use a different computer to use Web pages that require SideCar.
