Kerberos error 76: Can't Access Ticket File (tf_util)

Problem: Any attempt to use a kerberized service, or to log in to Kerberos manually, generates the above error. No Kerberos access is granted.

This error has been seen by only a few users.

Solution: Remove all Kerberos files and reinstall the CU Kerberos distribution.

*Warning: Do not delete any Kerberos files in the Windows System folder (i.e. C:\Windows\System, C:\Windows\System32\ or C:\Winnt\System\)

  1. For Windows 95/98/ME/NT: Go to Start | Find | Files or Folders
    For Windows 2000/XP: Go to Start | Search | For Files or Folders
  2. Type each of the file names found in the Kerberos file table in the Named box:
  3. Delete all copies of these files that are found.
  4. Download and run the Kerberos installer from the web.
