Mac OS X Firewall and SideCar
Note: Most services no longer need SideCar. See the SideCar FAQ.
Problem: When I have the built-in Firewall enabled in Mac
OS X 10.2 or 10.3, I cannot use SideCar.
Solution:
- From the Apple menu choose System Preferences.
- In the "Internet & Network" section click on Sharing.
- Click on the Firewall tab.
- Click on the button marked New...
- Choose Other where it says "Port Name".
- Type 913 where it says "Port Number, Range, or Series".
- Type SideCar for the "Description" field.
- Click OK to save these changes.
- Click Stop and then Start to restart the firewall.
- Quit System Preferences and try again to use SideCar.
