Kerberos 5 Error: Password incorrect

Problem: When I type my NetID and password, I get a "Kerberos 5: Password incorrect" error.

Solution:

  • First, make sure you are typing your NetID where it says "Name", and not your entire Cornell e-mail address or your full name.
Note: (your NetID is your intitials followed by numbers [ex. abc12]. The NetID does not include the "@cornell.edu")
  • Make sure that your NetID is all in lowercase.
  • While typing in your password, make sure that your Caps Lock key isn't accidentally on, and you are typing all the appropriate capital or lower case letters for your password (the password is case sensitive).
  • You should try your NetID and password on another computer. If your NetID and password function on a different computer but not on your computer, you might have to reinstall Kerberos.

  • If Kerberos still refuses to authenticate you on any computer, then you can have your password reset at the CIT HelpDesk. Make sure your bring a photo ID (for example, your Cornell ID, or a driver's license), and we will be able to change your password for you.
