How to Change Your NetID Password
Starting April 25, 2005,
everyone at Cornell is urged to change their NetID password to a stronger one
that's harder for password crackers to guess. To do so, follow these steps:
- Go to the Identity Management web site:
http://netid.cornell.edu/
- Click on Change your password
- Login by entering your current NetID and password
- In the Password Change dialog, your NetID is already filled in.
Enter your current password. Press the tab key or click inside a white box
to move from one box to the next. Enter your new password twice
to confirm that you typed it exactly as you intended.

Several kinds of help are available in this window:
- Place your cursor over one of the ? boxes to view brief information about what to type in the corresponding field.
- To the right of the dialog box is a summary of the password rules.
- Below the dialog box, click on password tips to see the complete guidelines
for strong and secure passwords.
- Click on password strength checker to try out a password
you're considering and find out whether it meets all the rules.
- Click the OK button. A message will tell you whether your password
change was successful. If not, the message will explain what's wrong and
you can retry changing your password.
