Hewlett Packard Printing on the Macintosh

Problem: My Hewlett-Packard Printer Isn't Responding

Solution:

Most HP DeskJet printers are easy to troubleshoot: if you've tried the general guidelines, then you'll want to go to the chooser and view your options. Many HP printers have two drivers: a standard chooser extension and another which uses AppleTalk (denoted by an 'AT' next to the printer name). If you have the AppleTalk extension selected, go to your Network or AppleTalk control panel from the Apple Menu and make sure you are connected via the printer port. If this is either not desirable (if you use AppleTalk over ethernet on campus, for example) or does not work, then you will want to try the non-AppleTalk driver. In this case, you will either want to make sure that AppleTalk is NOT using the printer port (check the same control panel(s) ), or if you are not on a local network, you can simply turn AppleTalk off all together.
