Printing on the Macintosh

Problem:Printing Over a Network Using AppleTalk

Solution:

To print over an Appletalk network, you must be on the same subnet as the printer. If everything is configured properly, and the printer does not show up in the Chooser, (in the Apple menu) then the printer is probably not on the same subnet as the computer.
If you seem to be having trouble selecting a networked printer over ethernetted AppleTalk in the chooser, try these simple ideas:

  1. Make sure your Ethernet cord is plugged in (again, basics first). If programs like Bear Access, Eudora, or Netscape are working, then it obviously is.
  2. Make sure that AppleTalk is active via the button in the bottom-right corner of the Chooser window.
  3. Check your AppleTalk connection. Open the AppleTalk control panel and make sure Ethernet is selected for your connection method Check the Chooser after making the change and closing the control panel.
