CIT no longer supports Macintosh operating systems older than Mac OS 8.6,
so these systems may not be
viable in the Cornell environment.
Configuring the Modem Control Panel
Essential configuration:
- On the Connect via menu, select the port that your modem is plugged into.
- On the Modem menu, select the type of modem you have.
If your modem is not listed in the Modem control panel,
then you have an unsupported modem. Setting up an unsupported modem
may require extra steps; for assistance,
call the CIT Helpdesk at (607) 255-8990.
Optional configuration:
- Set Sound to "On" if you want to hear the modem dialing.
- The Dialing option should always be set to "Tone."
The Pulse option is used for old, rotary phone systems.
- The "Ignore Dial Tone" box should not be checked unless
you are using a phone system in which your modem cannot recognize
the dial tone (for example, in a different country).
After making these changes, close the control panel, and click
Save when a message asks if you want to save the changes you made.
