Problem:
Your modem suddenly disconnects and you get an error message stating: "Disconnected from the computer you dialed".
Solution:
This error is normal when you are using the Express Lane service
(254-5656). Express Lane automatically disconnects you after 15
minutes, and you are allowed four 15-minute connections per day.
This error should be immediately followed by the option to reconnect.
If you receive this message immediately after your modem dials and begins negotiations, you have a fairly rare problem for which Microsoft has not yet posted a solution. Here are some possible causes
and solutions for this problem. Try them in order, as they get progressively
less likely and more difficult to fix as you proceed down the list.
- Make sure that you are entering the correct netID and password.
- If you are connecting to 254-5600, make sure that you are subscribed to EZ-Remote. Please call the HelpDesk to verify that you are enabled for the service.
- If this error occurs when connecting to both the 254-5600 line and the
254-5656 line, then try the solutions posted under
- If you are still having connection problems, there may be a hardware or software incompatibility between your modem and Cornell's 3Com V.90 modem pools. Please e-mail the HelpDesk at helpdesk@cornell.edu and provide as much of the following information as possible:
- computer manufacturer and model
- modem manufacturer and model
- time the error occurred
- exact text of the error message(s) you received when dialing in
- which modem pool you are dialing
