"Error 691: The computer you are dialing in to cannot establish a Dial-Up Networking connection. Check your password, and then try again."
    OR
You are repeatedly prompted for your Net ID and Password

Problem: After dialing in to Cornell, you are repeatedly prompted for your net ID and password and/or you get an "Error 691:...".

Solution:

All of the following can cause this problem:

Your username is entered incorrectly.
Your username should be your NetID in lowercase.
Your password is entered incorrectly.
Your EZ-Remote / Express Lane password is the same as your NetID password. If the Caps Lock key is on, this can cause your password to be entered incorrectly.
You are trying to connect to EZ-Remote without a subscription.
If you have not purchased an EZ-Remote subscription and you are trying to dial the EZ-Remote number (254-5600), then you need to use the Express Lane service (254-5656) or purchase a subscription. If you are a student, you can subscribe on-line.
You have entered incorrect login information in the Internet control panel.
Complete the following steps to correct your login information in the control panel:
  1. Click Start | Settings | Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the icon labelled "Internet".
  3. Click on the Connection tab.
  4. Make sure that "Connect using a modem" is checked and then click the Settings button.
  5. Enter your Net ID and Password in the appropriate fields.
  6. Click OK on all forms until you return to the Control Panel window.
You do not have "Log on to Network" selected in the Dial-up Networking Settings.
Complete the following steps to correct your Dial-up Networking Settings:
  1. Double click on "My Computer" then on "Dial-Up Networking" or if you are running Windows ME click Start | Settings | Dial-Up Networking.
  2. Right click on "Cornell" (or the icon you use for EZ-Remote or ExpressLane).
  3. Left click on "properties".
  4. Click on the "Server Types" tab (or in Windows ME the "Security")
  5. Check the "Log on to Network" checkbox.
  6. Click "OK"
  7. Try connecting again.
