EZ-Remote Rate Increase and
Express Lane Changes
Last spring, CIT began evaluating the financial viability of its
EZ-Remote dial-up service. After considering the alternatives, we
chose to keep EZ-Remote operational while slightly increasing its
rates. This is EZ-Remote's first rate increase in nearly 10 years.
Express Lane Changes
Coupled with this rate increase, we are changing our free Express
Lane service to reduce the burden on our paying EZ-Remote subscribers.
As of Fall 2003, Express Lane is no longer available to faculty
and staff.
Express Lane remains free and available to students and retirees.
Faculty and staff who require dial-up services can either purchase
an EZ-Remote subscription
or make other arrangements. Before we discontinue Express Lane for
faculty and staff, we are offering a grace period until October
15, 2003.
EZ-Remote Rate Increase
On October 1, 2003, an $18 increase will take effect, and EZ-Remote
subscriptions will cost $120/year. We are also switching the expiration
date for cash, credit, and bursar subscriptions to August 31. In
past years, cash and credit accounts expired on September 15; bursar
accounts did not expire at all.
Faculty and Staff Options
Faculty and staff who were using Express Lane have several options.
If your department is paying for the subscription, you have the
following options:
- Individual Department subscription
- Billed $10/month via Pinnacle
- Individual Credit Card subscription
- Billed $120/year via your Cornell Procurement Card or another
credit card
- Group subscription
- Billed $40/month through a simultaneous connection via Pinnacle
- Unlimited number of staff per group. We expect that each
department will choose a person to coordinate group subscriptions.
If faculty or staff members choose to pay for an EZ-Remote subscription
privately, they will be billed $120/year via credit card.
We have strived to keep EZ-Remote's price competitive, while offering
the convenience of Pinnacle and credit card billing. Nevertheless,
you have the option to seek service with external Internet service
providers, if that better meets the needs of an individual or department.
