I want to report a network problem.

request to CIT's Network Operations Center (NOC) by phone (5-9900),
or by e-mail to noc@cornell.edu. Be prepared to supply
the building, room number, jack name and IP address(es) of the

How do I change a hostname and who do
I contact to do this?
-
Enter your changes in the DNS database at http://dnsdb.cit.cornell.edu/.
If you are not listed in the database as a NetAdmin for your
subnets or domains, you will not be able to enter changes; write
to hostmaster@cornell.edu
to have yourself added to the list of NetAdmins.

I want to change the account number
that this network service is being billed to.
- Data connections
EZ-Remote
To change the account number, use the EVR (Equipment Verification
Report) which is mailed to the billing coordinator.
-
I would like to know the charges for
a specific type of service:
- Data connections
EZ-Remote
There are two subscription options available for EZ-Remote:
- Individual subscription - for one person using
a single connection from anywhere.
- Group subscription - for departmental use. The
group decides how many simultaneous modem connections it
wants.
The EZ-Remote Subscriptions
page provides details on charges and billing procedures for
each of these options.
Express Lane service offers free, brief dial-up connections
to students, and retired staff and faculty. It is restricted
to four 15-minute sessions per day.

I want to find out about Cornell's Domain
Name Service (DNS) and Host Registration service.
-
The host registration
page and FAQ
can give you more information about how registration is handled
at Cornell. When you are ready to actually register a device,
you can use a DNS
database for any kind of host registration process, such
as additions, modifications, and deletions. Cornell's Domain
Name Service provides translation between host names and Internet
Protocol (IP) addresses. There is background information and
instructions on entering domain name service addresses in Updating Your Computer's DNS Information.
-
How do I request a static route?
-
Contact the Network Operations Center (NOC) at 5-9900
or send a request, with details to noc@cornell.edu. Your
information will be taken and technicians will work with you
to make the required change.
-
How do I print from mainframe applications
to local laser printers (EZ-Print)?
-
You must register the printer you want to use with CIT and
install appropriate software on some systems. The Network Operations
Center (NOC) assists with configuration. Using
EZ-Print is a publication for groups just setting up this
service.
-
How do I sign up for and use CIT's backup
service (EZ-Backup)?
-
The EZ-Backup
service automatically backs up your workstation or server files
and allows you to restore them yourself. You may subscribe
to this service by filling out the EZ-Backup Subscription
Form, Form-85, or to subscribe multiple systems, you should
use the EZ-Backup Subscription Form: Multiple Systems, Form-86,
both available at the CIT HelpDesk or online as PDF files on
the Subscribing
to EZ-Backup page. A signature approving use of the departmental
account number is required.
-
How can I be sure that I am notified when
there are significant outages or problems with Cornell's telephone
or data networks?
-
Network Computing Systems maintains a university-wide
Network
Systems Outage page listing all relevant network or computing
problems. For information on recent outages, both planned and
unplanned, you can also consult the cornell.announce.networks
newsgroup. Technology support professionals are eligible to
subscribe to the AUDIX Notification List. Subscribers
to this list receive AUDIX messages from the Network Operations
Center when there are significant outages. AUDIX is also used
for mainframe status information: call 255-6424 for the current
status of the mainframe computer.
