Antivirus: Windows: Download and Install
Antivirus software scans your computer for viruses and other malicious software and can help remove or contain threats.
CIT supports Symantec Endpoint Security antivirus software (Windows) and Norton AntiVirus software (Macintosh). This software is free to faculty, students, Cornell University employees, and affiliates who use computer equipment owned by the university.

Caution: Multiple versions of antivirus software are not designed to coexist on a system. When you install Symantec Endpoint Protection (AntiVirus), the installer removes previous versions delivered by Bear Access (Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 9.x through Symantec Client Security 3.x). If you have any other version of antivirus software, manually remove it before installing the new version. Instructions are on the Antivirus: Windows: Uninstall page.
Download Symantec Endpoint Protection from uPortal.Cornell
- Log in to uPortal.Cornell.
- Click the Bear Access tab.
- In the Protect My Computer folder, click Symantec [SEP] AntiVirus V11 Windows.

- Download Symantec Endpoint Protection
- When you are asked to Run or Save, click Run.
Install
- Verify that you have at least 480Mb of free disk space.
- The Preparing to install window appears. You do not need to click anything.
- In the Welcome window, click Next.
- In the License Agreement window, read the agreement and then click I accept the terms in the license agreement. Then click Next.
- In the Ready to Install window, click Install.
- When the installation finishes, several windows will open. The top one should be LiveUpdate. After the updates finish downloading, click Finish.
- If necessary, close the Old Virus Definition File window.
- In the Installation Completed window, click Finish.
- If prompted, click Yes to restart your computer.





Symantic Endpoint Protection is now installed on your computer. Continue with the steps to Schedule Scans to be sure your computer is protected.
