Antivirus: Macintosh: Uninstall
You can only use Cornell's license for antivirus while you are a registered student or current faculty or staff member. If your affiliation with Cornell ends, you must remove this software from any computers you own.
You may also need to remove previous versions of antivirus software before installing a newer version.
Uninstall Norton AntiVirus version 11
- In the Applications folder, double-click the Symantec Solutions folder, and then double-click Symantec Uninstaller.
- In the Uninstall Symantec Products window, select Norton Antivirus Application, and then click Uninstall.
- Follow the instructions in the Uninstaller.

Uninstall Norton AntiVirus Version 10 or Earlier
- Download the Symantec Uninstaller from ftp://ftp.symantec.com/misc/tools/mactools/RemoveSymantecMacFiles.zip.
More information about this tool is found on the Symantec site. - Locate the RemoveSymantecMacFiles.command folder, and then double-click RemoveSymantecMacFiles.command.
- A terminal window opens. Enter the password for your computer. (This is the password for your computer, not your NetID.
- In the next window, enter 1 to remove all Symantec files.
- When the uninstaller is finished, you need to restart your computer before the changes are final. Enter Y to restart now or N to restart at a later time.
- From the Terminal menu, choose Quit Terminal.


Follow the instructions on the Download and Install page to install the new version of antivirus software.
