Symantec Endpoint Protection and Norton AntiVirus
Symantec Endpoint Protection and Norton Antivirus software your Windows or Macintosh computer from malicious Internet software including viruses, worms, and Trojan horses. The software is free to members of the Cornell community through a university site license. To install, see the Bear Accesss software page.
Note: In addition to antivirus software, everyone should run a firewall. For more information, see the Why Everyone Should Run a Firewall page.
Caution: Uninstall any previous versions of antivirus or firewall software before installing the latest version. Failing to uninstall before upgrading may result in serious problems (see details).
If you use Windows and read your e-mail through a "fat client" (that is, one that is NOT browser-based), you will need to change one setting in Symantec AntiVirus. This will not affect the security of your messages. Please see our Configure Symantec to work with SMTP page for complete instructions.
License: Symantec Endpoint Protection and Norton AntiVirus can be installed on any university-owned computer, and on home computers owned by registered students or by currently employed staff and faculty. You can only use these programs while you are a registered student or current faculty or staff member. If your affiliation with Cornell ends, you must remove this software from any computers you own.
