- Conventions for port numbers:
- Well-known ports are those from 0 through 1023. These are usually reserved for particular applications listening for incoming connection.
- Port numbers from 1024 until 65535 are usually dynamically assigned when a program needs to make an outgoing connection.
- ">1023" indicates that the program will be assigned the next unused port number greater than 1023 when it needs to make an outgoing connection.
