CIT Labs -- Policies and Information
Classes in the CIT Instructional Labs

CIT Instructional Labs (Stimson, Tjaden and Upson) are often reserved for classes during the semester. Students registered for the course have priority when a class is in session.

If the instructor has reserved only part of the lab, the operator may assign the remaining computers. To use a lab during a class, you must work quietly so you don't disturb the class.

Class schedules are posted on the outside door of each Instructional Lab and are available on each lab's web page. Please check to see if a class is in session before entering the lab. Students working in the lab will be warned 30 minutes before a scheduled class and will be asked to leave once the class starts to arrive.

Software for Courses

Software is often placed on individual lab servers and hard drives to assist students with their class work.

Your instructor will tell you where your course software is located, give you instructions on how to use it, and provide you with the necessary passwords.

Since lab operators may not know how to use your course software, they may not be able to help. Operators do not have passwords for classroom software.

If you can't find your course software

  • First, be sure you are in the right lab. Class software varies from lab to lab.

  • On a Macintosh, choose Restart under the Apple menu. In Windows, choose Logout from the Start menu. When the computer restarts, a cleaning program refreshes the hard drive and installs any missing software.

  • If you still can't find it, ask your professor or TA.

If your course software doesn't work

  • Find someone in the lab who is in your class and ask them for help.

  • On a Macintosh, choose Restart under the Apple menu. In Windows, choose Logout from the Start menu. When the computer restarts, a cleaning program refreshes the hard drive and reinstalls any software.

  • Ask the operator, but remember that he or she may not be able to offer much assistance. You will probably need to talk to your instructor.
