Mailing Lists of Special Interest

While there are several thousand Cornell electronic mailing lists covering many specialized topics, there are a few announcement-only lists which are of very broad interest. "Announcement-only" means that only the list owner can send a message to the list. This means that when you get a message from this list, you know it is official and important.

Some lists of special interest are:

CIT-ALERT-L
distributes announcements about serious disruptions or threats to the campus computing and telecommunications environment, including major outages of CIT services. Examples of events that would be announced through this list include: a virus posing a confirmed threat to campus systems; denial of service attacks (where hackers overwhelm a server with many forged messages); loss of DNS service (affecting your ability to reach essential hosts); loss of connection to external network; loss of internal or external phone service.

UNIV-CLOSING-L
distributes timely information about university operating status changes, road closings, and other emergency information.

SCHOOL-CLOSING-L
distributes information about public schools in the region, especially when a school or schools close or end the school day early (usually due to weather).

You can subscribe to these lists by sending an e-mail message as follows:
