How to Use Mailing Lists:
Addresses Associated with a Mailing List
While participating in a mailing list, you will run across a number
of different e-mail addresses. Here are descriptions of those addresses
along with information on how and when to use them.
listname@cornell.edu
-
Send messages to this address (for example, sailing-L@cornell.edu)
when you want them to be posted on the list for all subscribers
to read. This address appears on the "To:"
or "Cc:" lines of messages distributed by the
list.
listproc@cornell.edu
-
Where list subscribers send commands to join or leave lists,
or to configure their subscription.
Remember that messages sent to this address are processed by
computer and are not read by humans. Do not send questions or
comments to this address.
listname-request@cornell.edu
-
Where subscribers should write to get help or information from
the list owner. The listname must include "-L"
(for example, you would send this kind of message to
history234-L-request@cornell.edu or
sailing-L-request@cornell.edu ).
listmgr@cornell.edu
-
Rarely used by subscribers. Send e-mail to this address if
you've already checked the documentation and the list owner
was unable to help.
owner-listname@cornell.edu
-
An address used internally by the system. Subscribers should
never use this address to send messages, but seeing this
address in the "Sender:" field of an incoming
message tells you that the message came from the list.
