Replying to Messages in Thunderbird

You can respond to e-mail messages by clicking Reply or Reply All, either in the main toolbar above the message list, or while reading a message.

reply icon Reply addresses your return message to the person who sent you the message (Well, technically, it addresses it to the address indicated in the Reply-To header, but that's usually the same thing. E-lists are a special case, so be sure replies to e-list messages end up addressed correctly for your needs)
reply all icon Reply All addresses your return message to the person who sent the message and to any other addresses that appeared in the To or Cc headers.

Thunderbird will include the entire text of the original message in your reply. There is an extension called QuickQuote that allows you to customize the quoting process. Please visit our Thunderbird Extensions page for more information.

You can configure your account settings to choose whether your reply will appear above or below the quoted text.
