Special Mailboxes

Configuring How You Recieve Messages

There are various ways to check for, receive, and send special mailbox messages. Among the things to consider are how many people need to access the mailbox, whether you want the mail automatically forwarded to your personal e-mail account (no matter where you check it), and how many computers will be used to receive and send messages. Read over the four options below and select the one that best suits your circumstances. Click on the link for Option A, Option B, Option C, or Option D for detailed instructions on how to proceed.

The specific steps outlined in these pages assume you are using Eudora 6.x, the e-mail client distributed with Bear Access and supported by Cornell Information Technologies.

Option A

If you (this can be one person or many people) want to check for both personal messages and special mailbox messages no matter where you check (work, home, traveling, labs, etc.), you should:

purple bullet Forward incoming messages to your personal e-mail
purple bullet Filter incoming messages
purple bullet Use Eudora Personalities to send messages from the special mailbox

Option B

If you (this can be one person or many people) want to check both personal and special mailbox messages regularly from one or more computers (for example, every hour while at work) but do not want to download special mailbox messages while at home, traveling, or in other special circumstances, you should:

purple bullet Use Eudora Personalities to receive incoming messages
purple bullet Set your Eudora Personality for the special mailbox to use TLS security (instead of Kerberos)
purple bullet Filter incoming messages
purple bullet Use Eudora Personalities to send messages from the special mailbox

In order for TLS to work on a Macintosh, you must have an active Keychain.

See our TLS & Keychains page for complete information.

Option C

If you want to keep the special mailbox messages entirely separate from your personal account AND you want to be able to check them both simultaneously, you should:

purple bullet Set up an independent mailbox and use TLS

In order for TLS to work on a Macintosh, you must have an active Keychain.

See our TLS & Keychains page for complete information.

Option D

If you want to keep the special mailbox messages entirely separate from your personal account BUT you plan to check either only occasionally, you should:

purple bullet Set up an independent mailbox
