Personalities

In Eudora

Besides sending e-mail from their own address, many people need to send messages in other roles, for example, from a special mailbox, or an office professional sending messages for a faculty member. The personality feature lets you send e-mail that will show the desired information in the From and Reply-To fields.

These instructions explain how to set up a personality for a Cornell e-mail account using Eudora 5.2. Non-Cornell accounts will require different settings; ask the account provider for those settings.

These instructions assume you will be using a Personality to send messages. If you are receiving messages for a Personality, we assume you are having someone else's mail forwarded to your e-mail address.

Using Personalities when replying to or writing messages:

Go to the From line's drop-down menu and select the Personality you want to use. The recipients of this message will see the return address associated with that personality instead of your personal e-mail address.

Eudora treats personalities differently depending on whether you are using POP or IMAP to handle your messages. For more information on IMAP and POP, please see our comparison page.
