Sending Plain Text E-mail Messages

Eudora 6.x

There are various ways you can force Eudora to send plain text. You'll need to decide which works best for you.

Clear all formatting from a specific message before sending it

First, turn on the formatting toolbar.
(If you already see a formatting toolbar when you're composing a message, you can skip down to the next screen picture.

  • From the Tools menu, choose Options
(On a Macintosh, from the Special menu, choose Settings.)

  • Scroll down in the Category scroll area at the left and click on Styled Text

  • Click to put a check next to Show formatting toolbar

  • Click OK

(You only need to set this once, not every time you want to send a plain text message.)

Now when you are composing a message, you'll see the formatting toolbar just above the header rows.

When you are done composing your message and are ready to send it, remove ALL formatting from the message.

Now you can send your message.

Set Eudora to ask you whether to send formatting each time it sends a message with formatting information

  • From the Tools menu, choose Options
(On a Macintosh, from the Special menu, choose Settings.)

  • Scroll down in the Category scroll area at the left and click on Styled Text

  • On the right, select the first radio button: Send both plain and styled

  • Click to put a check next to Ask me each time

  • Click OK

Now when you send a message with formatting, Eudora will ask you whether to include the formatting information. If you are sending a message that must be in plain text, such as a command to Lyris or some other list manager system, click Plain.

Set Eudora to always send plain text

  • From the Tools menu, choose Options
(On a Macintosh, from the Special menu, choose Settings.)

  • Scroll down in the Category scroll area at the left and click on Styled Text

  • On the right, select the third radio button: Send plain text only

  • Click OK

Now you will not be able to apply formatting to your messages. This will make Lyris very happy.
