Leaving an E-list (Lyris)

The information on this page was changed in major ways in May 2007.

Troubleshooting guide for leaving lists...

To stop receiving messages from an e-list (also called unsubscribing), send an e-mail message to

listname-request@cornell.edu

where listname is the name of the list you want to leave, including the hyphen and the letter L at the end of the list name.

The body of the message is simply

leave

For example:

example of leave command

Important:

  • The message must be sent in plain text, that is, no formatting, font styles, or HTML code. (How do I send plain text?)
  • You should send this message from the e-mail address where you want to stop receiving the e-list's messages. If you cannot send mail from that address, or if you have other problems leaving a list, contact the list's administrators. Send a message (be sure to tell the admins what address you want removed) to

    owner-listname@cornell.edu

where listname is the name of the list you want to leave, including the hyphen and the letter L at the end of the list name. For example,

    owner-sheep-shearing-L@cornell.edu

A short time after sending this message, you may receive a confirmation request. Follow the instructions in the request (which involves replying to the message or clicking on a web link). The confirmation process helps ensure that only valid requests to leave are processed.

As a list member, it's up to you to distinguish between different kinds of communication, and to send each to the right address:
