E-lists at Cornell

Passwords & Lyris ListManager (Lyris)

If you were an administrator on an e-list under ListProc (the software previously used by CIT), you'll find that the way passwords work is significantly different.

Old

Under ListProc, every list had a single administrator password. Everyone with administrative duties for that list shared the same password. If you were an administrator for nine lists, you used nine different passwords.

New

Under Lyris, a password is associated with an e-mail address (representing a list administrator), so each administrator for CU-fengshui-L has an individual password. You don't share your password with anyone, including other administrators. When signing in to the admin interface (or logging in through an e-mail command), you'll use your e-mail address (which is how Lyris identifies members and administrators) and the password you've chosen.

Very very important: an e-mail address can only have one password, so, if you choose to change your password, be aware that you are changing it for all lists that are administered from that e-mail address.

If you choose to change a password, it doesn't affect anyone else (other administrators' passwords will continue to work for them).
